Despite attempts to scare it off with shotguns and group pursuits, the creature persisted, harassing the family nightly—hitting the house, testing doors, and leaping off the roof—leaving them in constant fear until they moved out in 1979, an event the narrator, then a child, recalls as the happiest day of their life.
