Accounting is critical to our economy's success. It enables large-scale production by providing methodical management help. It provides a common platform on which the many parts of the business—investors, bankers, government, labor, owners, and management can meet to present the results of corporate activities. It serves as a foundation for progressive planning as a method of recording corporate history. Accounting also serves the public interest as a professional activity with high standards specified by a written code of ethics. Because our economy is becoming more complicated and specialized, there is a growing demand for more and better-skilled accountants.
