Beyond the Breaking Waves

On the rugged Oregon coast, mail carrier Mary Gerritse is no stranger to hardship. With her daughter betraying her, her husband John escaping to sea, and her heart carrying fresh sorrow, Mary finds herself stretched thin in every direction. When she rescues a stranger from the shore, his talk of petroleum investments begins to feel like providence. Hoping to secure her family's future while her husband is away, and to soothe her grief, Mary mortgages their property and puts her trust in the promised fortune.

While the promise of reconciliation with her family brings Mary joy, soon the investment falters, her husband becomes ill, and Mary is surrounded by sorrow. As hardship closes in, the women around her, each carrying burdens of their own, prove to be a steady refuge. Together they find hope and strength to endure, even when the path forward isn't certain. Glimmers of a new opportunity within her community finally offer Mary a chance at what she desires most--her family together, adventure, and a way to help others flourish.

New York Times bestselling author Jane Kirkpatrick highlights the difficulty of pioneer life and the hope found in faith, community, and new beginnings.
