Jain Tirthankaras and Religion

Jainism is one of the world's oldest religions, with deep roots in ancient Indian spiritual traditions and references found in revered texts like the Srimad Bhagwad, Vishnu Puran, Padam Puran, and Matsya Puran. The religion derives its name from the word Jin, meaning conqueror—one who has triumphed over desires and senses. Such spiritually evolved beings are honored as Arhant, Arihant, or Arhat. Jainism emphasizes non-violence, self-discipline, and deep inner reflection. The religion reveres twenty-four Tirthankaras, all of whom were born as ordinary humans but attained spiritual enlightenment through intense discipline and self-control. These Tirthankaras serve as role models and spiritual guides for Jain followers.
