#1 I was one of fourteen men assigned to SEAL Team One, detachment Golf, Juliett Platoon. Out of the two officers and twelve enlisted men, only five had completed one or more tours of duty in Vietnam. The other nine would be in-country for the first time.

#2 The members of Juliett Platoon were Seaman Weber, Seaman Panella, Seaman Reeves, Torpedoman Grimes, Radioman Seaman Shannon, Ship Fitter Pipe Fireman Strausbaugh, Hospital Corpsman First Class Petty Officer Schrier, and Seaman Young.

#3 The Victoria Hotel in Saigon was one of the SEALs’ favorite hangouts. We met on the roof after getting settled, and LePage suggested we meet up later that day to swim in the swimming pool.

#4 I was assigned to the coastal group 36, advance team 71, and was sent to the village of Long Phu. I was informed that the Vietcong and North Vietnamese soldiers had thousands of places to hide and escape routes.
