#1 When you are sensitive to rejection, it can throw you off track. For instance, Mandy would often overreact when someone was unable to meet her for dinner. She was not able to see that it wasn’t because they didn’t value her, but because of a simple conflict in their schedule.

#2 Rejection, or the fear of it, can be devastating. It can lead some people to guard against it by withdrawing socially, constantly presenting themselves in a positive light, or trying to endear themselves to others by being extremely kind and caring.

#3 Attachment theory states that the way people relate to themselves and others is rooted in their biology and their early life experiences. People’s attachment styles are a combination of the way they relate to themselves and to others.

#4 The model of self is the way a person perceives their own emotional availability. Those with an anxious attachment style typically have a negative model of themselves, as they feel inadequate, flawed, and unlovable. They tend to feel great anxiety in relationships with themselves.
