#1 I would often end up in places like this - back pockets of the world where less desirable things and people are crammed away. I was always shocked by the sight of children working, smiling, in some places.

#2 I meet my friend in the orange dress again, and we walk to the other side of the river. We say goodbye, and I continue on my journey. I know with certainty that I’ll see her again.

#3 I grew up in a blue split-level house in New Jersey with two sisters, progressive, earthy parents, and a trampoline bigger than the mud huts where people sleep in Nepal. I was grateful for everything I had, but I couldn’t help but feel like something was missing.

#4 I met Sunita at Ramana’s, and we planned to go to her village together. We trekked for days, up, up, up, across the thigh-melting summit of Maha Bua, and down, almost stumbling onto her village. It appeared behind a thick, glassy plate of sunshine.
