#1 BDSM, which is short for Bondage, Domination, Submission, and Masochism, has been around for as long as human beings have developed superior intelligence. It is based on the master-slave dynamic, which is still present in many relationships today.

#2 BDSM, while it is a voluntary relationship today, still retains the appearance of total domination by the master. The master’s unquestioning and absolute power is the basis for this relationship, though of course, the dynamic today is a little more complex than Nero or Caligula demanding everyone strip naked for their amusement.
