#1 The decision to have a child is not a matter of economics, data, or rationality. The decision to have a child is a wild problem. The decision to have a child is what I call a tame problem, one that can be solved by importing help from other challenges we’ve faced and solving them. But the big decisions in life—whether to marry, who to marry, whether to have children, what career path to take—cannot be made with data or rational thought. These decisions must be made through a different lens.

#2 To make important decisions, you must not think like a rational person. Instead, you must think like a child, an animal, or a tree.
