"The Shining," by Stephen King, tells the story of Jack Torrance, a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic, who takes a job as the winter caretaker at the remote Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. He brings his wife, Wendy, and their young son, Danny, with him. The hotel, with its dark history and isolation, begins to exert a malevolent influence over Jack.
