The King James Version of the Bible

In 1604, King James I of England ordered that a new English version of the Bible be translated. This version, sometimes referred to as the Authorised Version, includes the 39 books of the Old Testament, the 14 books of the Apocrypha, and the 27 books of the New Testament. The translation was completed by 47 Church of England scholars over 7 years, and it is believed that King James intended the new version to reassert and ensure the future of the Church of England’s ecclesiological longevity.
