For nearly 20 years, the Steel Confessors have been one of Warhammer 40K's biggest mysteries. After being the centerpiece of the massive Games Day 2005 event, this unique Space Marine chapter and its lore seemingly vanished, leaving only fan speculation and a "Needs Citation" mark on wiki pages. That all changed in October 2025, when a fan miraculously produced the original, intact Index Astartes leaflet from that very event. Join us as we explore the real-world history of the lost chapter, the 20-year hunt for answers, and finally dive deep into the official, newly-discovered lore—from their "heretical" Mechanicus origins to the final fate of the "crippled chapter".

This is it: the final, catastrophic conclusion to the War of the Beast.
The Imperium is on its last legs, but Lord Commander Koorland has one final, desperate plan: to weaponize captured Ork Psykers. The goal is to create a "Reverse-Waaagh!" effect so powerful it can break the Ork horde by exploding their heads in a massive chain reaction.
The second assault on Ullanor is launched, with Koorland and a small strike team teleporting directly into the Beast's throne room. But it's a trap. Koorland comes face-to-face with the Beast, only to learn the horrifying truth: there was never just one Beast. There are six Prime-Orks. Koorland is killed by the true Beast of Beasts, who mockingly takes his title: "I am Slaughter".
With hope all but extinguished, Maximus Thane of the Fists Exemplar steps up. He reunites the successor chapters to rebuild the Imperial Fists and plans a final, all-or-nothing assault with the help of Grand Master Vangorich and Fabricator General Kubik. To secure the necessary resources, Vangorich blackmails the remaining High Lords with hidden assassins, forcing them to commit everything to the war effort.
This final battle is a gamble on an impossible scale, and a desperate race to detonate the last Ork Psyker bomb in the heart of the Beast's temple.

This episode covers the climatic middle act of the War of the Beast, focusing on three books: The Hunt for Vulkan, The Beast Must Die, and Watchers in Death. The story begins with rising tensions between Terra and a secretive Mars, as Fabricator-General Kubik experiments with Ork teleportation tech, perhaps to flee the system entirely. After a near civil war is averted, information surfaces that The Beast is on Ullanor. Koorland is dispatched to find the only being who can lead the charge: the Primarch Vulkan, who is found fighting an entire Ork army alone on Caldera. Vulkan returns to lead a massive Imperial armada to Ullanor, now a terrifying "Attack Planet". The campaign culminates in a desperate assault on The Beast's "temple gargant," where Vulkan sacrifices himself in a cataclysmic explosion to kill the Ork leader. But the war is far from over. A chilling signal—"I am Slaughter"—emerges from the attack moon over Terra. In response, Koorland proposes a "hamfisted" and heretical new force of unified Astartes: the Deathwatch. As the newly formed Deathwatch battles the moon, Koorland also seeks out the long-lost Sisters of Silence to counter the Orks' psychic power.

The War of the Beast continues as a moon-sized Ork monstrosity suddenly appears in the skies above Terra, causing mass panic and riots that kill thousands of citizens. While the High Lords flounder, Juskina Tull, Speaker for the Chartist Captains, proposes a "Proletarian Crusade," mobilizing a massive fleet of civilian and merchant ships to assault the Ork moon. The crusade successfully lands on the moon's surface, but it is a trap; the terrain itself shifts and grinds, destroying the human forces.
​Following the disaster, three unarmed Orks, calling themselves "ambassadors," land on Terra and demand the Imperium's surrender in perfect gothic. Before the High Lords can respond, the Imperial Palace is rocked by an attack, not from the Orks, but from Eldar Harlequins. Led by Shadowseer Lhaerial Rey, they deliver a message from Eldrad Ulthran, warning of the greater threat of Chaos and presenting a gift from the lost Primarch Vulkan—the tooth of a Nocturnian salamander.

By mid-M32, the Imperium was in a state of relative peace and prosperity. Having recovered from the devastating Horus Heresy, the Traitor Legions were still reeling from their defeat inside the Eye of Terror, Xenos were relegated to the frontiers of Imperial space, and the stagnation and decay that would define the Imperium millennia later had not yet set in. Confident that humanity had endured its greatest challenge, the Orks in particular were underestimated and judged to have been removed as a threat since the Ullanor Crusade. This underestimation of the greenskins would prove to be disastrous when an enormous Ork planetoids began to materialize around imperial worlds, the Imperial Fists Chapter was destroyed, entire Sectors were overrun by the Greenskins and billions upon billions perished.

Shas'O Vior'la Shovah Kais Mont'yr, aka O'Shovah or Commander Farsight, is alleged to still be leading the Farsight Enclaves, although this would mean that he has lived for at least three centuries, considerably beyond the ordinary lifespan of T'au Fire Caste members. It may be that another has taken up his mantle, or that the real Commander is extending his lifespan through some technological process. One thing that is certain is that the breakaway Farsight Enclave maintains a strongly martial tradition closely based on the Vior'la Sept (lit: "hot-blooded"), O'Shovah's birthplace.

Logan Grimnar is the "Great Wolf" or Chapter Master of the Space Wolves Chapter. He is one of the most belligerent and headstrong Chapter Masters in the Imperium of Man, as well as perhaps the greatest Wolf Lord of all time, yet he remains absolutely loyal to the Emperor of Mankind and the great primarch of the Space Wolves, Leman Russ. Grimnar has been the Great Wolf of the Space Wolves for over 500 of his 700 standard years of life and is one of the oldest Chapter Masters of a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter.

The Abyssal Crusade was an Imperial Crusade undertaken in 321.M37. The judgement of Saint Basillius found thirty Space Marine Chapters lacking faith. The guilty Chapters were given a choice between death or embarking upon a great crusade into the Eye of Terror. All would choose the latter.

The Crusade met with disaster, and each of the Chapters that took part in it had their tale ended in great misfortune.

The crusade's mysterious and disastrous fate was kept hidden from the greater Imperium, and the Administratum denied any link to it and the increase of Chaos Space Marine raids shortly afterwards. All that is known is that 800 years after the Crusade began, the remnants of some of the judged Chapters returned from the Warp with their purity and sanity intact. Infuriated and embittered by their ordeal, they cast their sights on the legacy of Saint Basillius, the long-deceased figure now worshiped as a god.
