All Hallows' Eve in the Village

Spooky Season Walking Tour

Originally presented as Episode 38, September 9, 2024

Our stories today highlight some lovely spectator experiences in the Village of Nothing Much. We’ll settle into the joy of stepping back and observing. First, we’ll stroll down to the park and toss a blanket over the grass, where we can listen to the crack of the bat as the inning passes in At the Diamond. Then we’ll button up a flannel shirt, stop for a cup of hot cider, and climb to the top section in In the Bleachers. Finally, we’ll settle in on the patio, around the bonfire as it snaps and crackles, and wait for the clouds to clear in Harvest Moon.

Silence and Sunflowers

Originally aired August 19, 2024

Our stories today are part of a larger arc that started with the most popular residents of the Village, Marmalade the Cat, and her little brother, Crumb the Dog. I’d set out to just tell the next part of their story, but found a spark that would eventually lead to love. First comes Raining Cats and Dogs, where we can listen to the thunder, shuffle around the house in the dim, stormy light, and contemplate plans for the day. Then we’ll hear Old Friends, a story about a day spent watching movies on the couch, a greyhound in a yellow rain slicker, and a fresh cup of coffee with a bit of sugar stirred in. Finally, we’ll follow the mail carrier through the neighborhood as he delivers special missives with LOVE stamps in RSVP.

The Village Green Walking Tour

Our stories today take us through some ways folks in the Village are spending their days and evening in the early summer. We’ll start by laying the table under the string lights in the garden and pulling up chairs with friends in The Dinner Bell. Then we’ll see where the night takes us, from the blanket in the part to the lot on the edge of town, with bubbles and blankets in At The Drive-In. Finally we’ll slow down, take some deep breaths and reset by arriving Early to Yoga.
