वनस्पतयः शान्तिः

चित्रकूटप्रदेशे दीर्घजीवी नाम ऋषिः आश्रमे निवसति । तत्र जनाः वृक्षच्छेदनं कृत्वा गृहाणि निर्मितवन्तः, अङ्गारनिर्माणं च कृतवन्तः, येन वनं वृक्षशून्यं जातम् । कालेन अनावृष्ट्या जलाशयाः शुष्काः अभवन्, जनाः, पशवः च मरणासन्नाः सन्तः महतीं पीडां अनुभवन्ति स्म । तत्प्रदेशे निवसन् कश्चन काष्ठोपजीवी पिपासया क्लान्तः आश्रमे दीर्घजीविनं दृष्ट्वा जलं भोजनं च प्राप्तवान् । तेन देशस्य दुःस्थितेः कारणे पृष्टे दीर्घजीवी अवदत् यत् वृक्षच्छेदनं, अग्निसंयोगः च एतस्य संकटस्य कारणम् इति । सः काष्ठोपजीविनं वृक्षारोपणाय प्रेरयन् देशस्य रक्षणे प्रवृत्तिं कर्तुम् उक्तवान् । सः काष्ठोपजीवी दीर्घजीविनः उपदेशं स्वीकृत्य वृक्षारोपणाय कृतनिश्चयः स्वग्रामं प्रत्यागतः । (“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)

In the Chitrakoot region, the long-lived name Rishi resides in the ashram. People there cut down trees, built houses, and built coal mines, which cleared the forest of trees.
