The childish adventures of Lloyd Sherman, the Little Colonel, come to an end in The Little Colonelï¿½s Knight Comes Riding, the last in the Little Colonel series. After their return to Lloydsboro Valley, Kentucky, from Warwick Hall in Washington D.C., the Little Colonel and friends Kitty Walton and Betty Lewis find that the young boys they have grown up with have matured into graceful young men. The Little Colonel struggles between her desire to still be a child and her desire to live the life of a sophisticated young woman. But childhood sweetheart Rob Mooreï¿½s proposal of marriage makes the Little Colonel all the more aware of her developing adult emotions.

The Little Colonel's Knight Comes Riding

Following her successful house party, Lloyd Sherman, the Little Colonel, finds her friends returning to their homes as the end of the summer approaches, signaling the beginning of the school year. While Joyce, Eugenia, and Betty return to their homes, the Little Colonel begins to regret having met her friends, due to the loneliness of having to lose them again. But as Christmas approaches, the Little Colonel finds herself volunteering at the childrenï¿½s hospital where, through her dying friend, Dot, she learns the true meaning of the holidays and of friendship.
