Richard is an average 15-year-old from the hills of Ohio whose biggest concerns are studying for tests and asking Becky out next Saturday. Everything changes one day when, while lying on the sofa in his parents’ basement, he hears someone whisper, "I am your gift." A moment later, the sofa shoots straight up into the air, passing like a ghost through the house and then soaring into space.

The sofa doesn’t stop until it reaches the moon. There he meets AAL, an artificial life form, who reveals a shocking secret: Richard is the rightful heir to a kingdom spanning the Milky Way galaxy.

With AAL’s help, Richard will travel to the distant planet of Krel, the kingdom’s capital, to claim his throne. Along the way, he will encounter wondrous creatures that he once thought mythical: centaurs, satyrs, pure white pegasuses, and many others.

But powerful forces are already gathering against him, and after centuries without a ruler, many in the kingdom are not ready to accept a boy from a backwater planet as their king. It will take every ounce of strength Richard has, along with help from some unlikely allies, for him to seize his destiny.

Richard Drumm might still look like a normal fifteen-year-old kid from Ohio, but over the last few months, he’s become much, much more. The heir apparent of a galaxy-spanning kingdom, he’s survived assassination attacks, been evolved by the energies of the black hole at the center of the Milky Way, and been given powers far beyond the abilities of other humans.

But challenges lie ahead. For one thing, he can’t always control his powers, a development that is embarrassing at best and downright dangerous at worst—such as when he teleports places without knowing when or where it will happen. Richard will soon find, however, that their efforts will cause him more trouble than he thought possible—both in his new home of Krel and back home on Earth.

Everything is looking up for 15-year-old Richard Plantagenet. After defeating his chief political rival, Senator Spartacus, Richard’s rulership of the Milky Way kingdom seems assured. He’s also more adept at using his powers, like teleportation, shielding himself from harm, and conjuring things out of thin air—though this latter ability is still mostly used to make cheeseburgers.

More important to him than all those things is the foxlike Amber, the love of his life and soon-to-be mother of their two children. Unfortunately, her pregnancy has brought out her feral side. Her instincts are driving her to protect her cubs at any cost, even to the point of digging her fangs into Richard’s neck when he accidentally surprises her.

But Amber is the least of his problems, for in the darkness of another dimension looms the greatest threat of all: the great dragon. This massive and ancient evil will soon have a chance to escape its prison, and its only aim is to destroy the kingdom once and for all.

Fresh off of his victory over the galaxy's greatest and most ancient foes, the extra-dimensional dragons, the boy-king Richard is ready for a break. Unfortunately for Richard, other enemies, such as the power-hungry Spartacus family, wait in the wings. Even worse, tensions between humans and non-humans have reached the boiling point throughout the kingdom, and it won't take much to tip the galaxy into civil war. Richard will soon find that he's sitting on a powder keg—and the fuse is about to run out.
