An actor, musician, and novelist, 

Madame Nielsen is novelist, artist, performer, stage director and world history enactor, composer, chanteuse, and multi-gendered. Madame Nielsen is the author of numerous literary works, including a trilogy—The Suicide Mission, The Sovereign, and Fall of the Great Satan—and most recently, The Endless Summer, the "Bildungsroman" The Invasion, and The Supreme Being. Madame Nielsen is translated into nine languages and has received several literary prizes. The autobiographical novel My Encounters with The Great Authors of our Nation was published in 2013 under her boy's-name, Claus Beck-Nielsen, and was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2014.

Gaye Kynoch is the translator of a book about Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen) and Lime's Photograph by Leif Davidsen.

Danish Women Writers Series

Stylistically provocative, Justine tells the story of a young female artist whose life is upended when her house burns down with all of the artworks for her upcoming exhibit inside. With little time left to recreate every-thing she's lost, Justine embarks on a series of sexual escapades with a sort of doomed intensity that foreshadows the novel’s final, dark twist.

Through flashbacks and fragmented memories, we see Justine as a student at the Art Academy first discovering the misogynistic order that rules the Danish art world, and later on as she constantly challenges its expectations—both in the studio and in bed.

A personal meditation on artistic identity, creative process, and the male-dominated art scene, the novel veers between the erotic and the savage, resulting in a spellbinding read from one of Denmark's edgiest contemporary feminist writers.

Iben Mondrup is a trained visual artist from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts who is also the author of four novels, including Justine, its sequel, and Godhavn.

Kerri A. Pierce has published translations from seven different languages in a variety of genres—fiction and nonfiction, novel and short story. Her translation of The Faster I Walk, The Smaller I Am by Kjersti A. Skomsvold was a finalist for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.

The second of Klougart's novels to be shortlisted for the Nordic Council Literature Prize, One of Us Is Sleeping was also shortlisted for the Readers' Award and was a best-seller in Denmark. 

Deep Vellum will be bringing out another of Klougart's novels in 2017. 

This is the second title to be released in Open Letter's "Danish Women Writers Series" (Rock, Paper, Scissors by Naja Marie Aidt was the first), which is funded by the Danish Arts Council and includes additional marketing money to promote these titles. 

Klougart will be touring the U. S. in support of this novel, and already has started builing a fanbase, thanks to excerpts of her work that have appeared in Asymptote, World Literature Today, and elsewhere.

A mix of poetry, fiction, and essay, her writing has been compared to that of Joan Didion, Anne Carson, and Virginia Woolf.

Naja Marie Aidt was born in Greenland and raised in Copenhagen. She is the author of seven collections of poetry and five short story collections, including Baboon (Two Lines Press), which received the Nordic Council's Literature Prize and the Danish Critics Prize for Literature. Rock, Paper, Scissors is her first novel.
