"Signing the Contract and What It Cost" is a novel by Martha Finley, an American teacher and author of numerous works for children. Although Finley was mostly known as a children's writer, she wrote three novels for adults, one of which is presented here. The story tells about a poor woman, left alone without a penny with a toddler, struggling to earn her living. Being almost broke with illness and poverty, she was forced to give her baby in adoption and spent the rest of her life trying to find her child. Will they manage to find each other and reunite?
