Lyric Poetry

Spanish poetry reached its golden age in the 16th century through some of the poets included in this selection. The verses of Lope de Vega, Francisco de Quevedo, Luís de Góngora, Garcilaso de la Vega, and Fray Luís de León, discover how they approached universal themes (love, the passage of time, religion, etc.) from different formal proposals, where popular and intellectual poetry coexist. Romances, Sonnets, and other poetic forms, a language in full modernization, and poems where the highest feelings and moral reflections find their place, as well as humor and even insult.
