Non-Fiction
In Chamula we find a curandero to prepare a blessing ritual for us. Candles are burnt completely during and after the personal ceremonies, leaving behind puddles of multicolored wax. The prayers are said aloud in Tzotzil only, sometimes interrupted by weeping and repeatedly making the sign of the cross. We need a white and black drink to call the spirits. Curanderos use a chicken egg to heal or cure people by waving a live hen over their head. In extreme cases they then kill the chicken right amid the ceremony.
