Focus niet op christelijke scholen, maar steek in op christelijk onderwijs, aldus Kees Boele. De auteur trekt verrassende lijnen tussen de huidige tijdgeest en de periode voor keizer Constantijn (280-337 na Chr.). Toen waren christenen eveneens een minderheid en was er ook sprake van multireligiositeit. Tegenwoordig zijn het stoïcisme, epicurisme, scepticisme en neoplatonisme springlevend. Boele zet Erasmus als blauwdruk neer om het christelijk onderwijs vorm te geven. Concreet betekent dit gerichtheid op onderwijs door ouders, catechese in de kerk en christen-docenten op openbare scholen.
