In three parts. Part. 1. Melissa 1982, Ambrose at a London drama school. Here we are introduced to Melissa, Ambrose’s girlfriend, and the gifted Shirley, as well as a small group of acting students whose fortunes we follow throughout. Part. 2. Shirley 1985, Ambrose and his fellow students enter London’s theatre world. Our hero stumbles from one disappointment to another, finally falling in love with the ex-student, Shirley. A relationship fraught with farcical misunderstandings, causing Ambrose to flee as the city erupts in riots. Part. 3. Stella 1990, Ambrose returns to London a successful actor chasing a new woman. While pursuing this misguided romance he learns the fate of the lovers/performers he left behind.
