The collection includes the story "1922" about Wilfred James who admits to murdering his wife in 1922. Years later, he is haunted by his crime. Another story, "A Good Marriage", introduces Darcy Anderson, who discovers a dark secret about her husband of many years, leading her to question everything she thought she knew about their seemingly normal life.
The plot of another story from the collection follows Tess, a novelist, who seeks revenge after experiencing a brutal assault.
