Originally published in 1899, this collection of Mrs Philip Lybbe Powys' diary entries by a descendant is both expensive and hard to find in its first edition. The extracts from Powys' diaries and travelling journals present a fascinating insight into life, manners and customs of the upper classes in the last half of the eighteenth century. Contained within its 407 pages is a wealth of interesting anecdotes involving royalty, and other notable people, descriptions of country seats, places, towns, manufactures, amusements, and general habits of the period.
