Such Determination

"No one wants to say anything? Okay. I would call you one after the other to state your plans," she said.

One after the other, the previously mute subordinates were forced to speak. Eventually, it got to the last person, a young man with short hair and glasses.

"Yes, can I hear you, James? What are your plans?" she asked him.

"Ma’am, I am very sure that I would close that equipment financing deal with Tiger Construction Company," he said.

She frowned. "Tiger? Are you referring to the seven billion loan offer that we have tried without success to close for the past one year?"

James nodded. "Yes. That is the one"

"So, let me get this right, James. Of all of you marketing executives here, you have the least experience, am I right?"

"Yes."

"How old are you on this job?"

"I am seven months now."

"And you think you can make them signup on this mega - deal just like that?"

"I am determined to succeed."

"And so is every other executive seated with you. But the only difference between them and you is that they didn't take on any projects that were way beyond their reach. No. Rather, they chose what they know they can accomplish by this month end."

"I know, ma’am. But I am positive that I would succeed."

"And you think you are the only one who has that determination, James?"

"I didn’t say that, ma'am. But I can only speak for myself."
