ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK
"The Devil and the Dark Water" by Stuart Turton is a historical mystery set in 1634. It follows the journey of the Saardam, an Indiaman galleon, as it sails from Batavia to Amsterdam. Accompanying the ship is Samuel Pipps, a renowned detective imprisoned for an alleged crime, and his loyal bodyguard, Arent Hayes.
As the ship navigates the open seas, a series of ominous events plague the vessel, including a leper cursing the ship, strange symbols appearing, and the slaughter of livestock. The passengers and crew begin to suspect a supernatural force is at work, with whispers of a demon called Old Tom. As tensions rise and fear spreads, Arent and Sara Wessel investigate the mysteries, encountering betrayal, mutiny, and death.
