#1 I grew up in Hong Kong, and was always an outsider because of my Chinese heritage. I was always the smallest and weakest kid in my Ping-Pong league, but I still won awards. I felt like an imposter, and when I moved to America, I had to practice fitting in.

#2 I have a four-character Chinese name and an English nickname, Jimmy. My family name is a rare two-character last name, , Ou Yang, and my given name is , Man Shing, which means ten thousand successes in Chinese.

#3 Chinese families are extremely dependent on food, and this was especially true for my family. I was always responsible for cooking the rice, and my dad was extremely critical of how it was cooked. If I cooked it wrong, it would mean the death of the entire five-course meal.

#4 I grew up watching American action movies, and I was obsessed with all the larger-than-life American action heroes: Arnold, Stallone, Seagal, and Van Damme. I was sure I would never be able to love again after my dad brought home three pet chicks and took one of them away.
