#1 Life in Bala Murghab was like living in exile, as the team was unable to leave the base due to the freezing temperatures. The team was lucky enough to have its own mobile generator to provide them heat and electricity.

#2 In January, the team began to work with the Afghan National Army, and they were able to get ten soldiers from the Alkazai School checkpoint. They were sheltering in a large tent. The team was able to build trust and confidence with the Afghan soldiers by walking with them and patrolling with them.

#3 The highlight of my days now consisted of receiving supplies from the air, usually well after midnight. The only thing that made getting up at 0200 to receive a CDS drop was the chance to see the amazing view of stars on clear nights.

#4 I was able to set up my Raven B drone, a small and lightweight prop plane with a side-mounted camera that was easy to deploy on short notice. I wanted to help Rob in any way I could, so I placed the radio antenna on the roof of our tactical operations center and flew it around the Bazaar area.
