"A London-based company with a license to broadcast Republic TV in the UK has been fined by a London Court £37,500. The Fine has been imposed on this company for defaming a British businessman who was called ISI stooge on a news show. This came a day after the British Businessman won a defamation case against Republic Bharat, the Hindi news channel arm of Republic TV. The High Court Of Justice, Queen’s Bench Division underlined that “the programme contained no evidence whatsoever to support its assertions” while holding that the allegations were “likely to cause serious harm to the reputation of the Claimant” Well, this is not the first time that it has happened though. In December 2020, the British broadcasting regulator had also fined the company for a debate on the channel that it found contravened the code against “hate speech”.
