Confessions of Beau the Gardener – England Late 1970's
Book 5 of 6 – The Artist's Muse
The summary of the fifth book in the series is as follows:
In 1987, Beau is hired by Isabelle DuPont, a provocative French painter, to transform her wild Sussex garden. Their collaboration blurs into artistic partnership as Isabelle insists Beau model for her—first clothed, then draped in classical linen. The sessions spark an intense creative and romantic connection, with Beau becoming both landscaper and muse. Their idyll shatters when Jean-Luc, Isabelle’s manipulative ex-lover and a powerful critic, arrives. He publicly exhibits her intimate portraits of Beau, framing their relationship as scandalous fodder for the art world. Though the show catapults Isabelle to fame, Beau realizes he’s been reduced to a fleeting inspiration. Heartbroken but resolute, he leaves the unfinished garden, rejecting notoriety to return to his true calling: shaping landscapes, not being shaped by others’ artistry. The experience leaves him wary of blurred boundaries but reaffirms his identity beyond temporary passions.
The initial opening credit music is “Boy, you've got it”, which does run to approximately 3 minutes plus and the “customer” is hungry for his presence. The closing music, “Same time next week, ends the story with a cheerful optimism, I am coming back don't worry absence makes the heart grow fonder and release then is so much sweeter.
The story and music itself runs to just over 34 minutes and is narrated in my own voice.
I do hope you enjoy this audiobook and let me know what you think, there are a lot more to come
