Metropolis

A poor labor class lives underground. The wealthy elite live in a gleaming city above them. This is Metropolis, the sci-fi classic that emerged after its writer collaborated on the screenplay for the 1927 film by the same name. As tensions between the two classes come to a head, a pair of young people from different worlds fall in love. Impoverished and compassionate Maria comes together with existential Freder, the wealthy son of one of the above-ground leaders, in a romance that angles toward whatever peace they can find.
