ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK
Seanan McGuire's Every Heart a Doorway introduces Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children, a school for students who have returned from fantastical worlds and struggle to readjust to ordinary life. The story centers on Nancy, a new student who recently returned from the Halls of the Dead.
As Nancy tries to fit in, she encounters other students like Sumi, who went to a high Nonsense world, and Kade, who was a Goblin Prince in Fairyland. The school, run by Eleanor West, provides a sanctuary for these children, but it cannot replicate the worlds they long for.
The narrative explores themes of identity, belonging, and the challenges of re-entry into a world that feels alien. When a student is murdered, the fragile peace of the school is shattered, and the students must confront not only the external threat but also their own inner demons and desires to return to their lost homes.
