"With the Presidential and Vice-Presidential election just round the corner, political activity is picking up. A couple of weeks ago, BJP sent its emissary, Dharmendra Pradhan, to meet Nitish Kumar as a first of the many pits stops that BJP would be making in the coming weeks. It is widely believed, and probably rightly so, BJP has the numbers to see its candidate through in both the Presidential and Vice-Presidential elections. Then why are the BJP bosses worried and scurrying for support from other groups.The problem of BJP is that it remains weak in the states. The electoral votes BJP gets from the states is far less than that of the opposition parties. In addition, BJP’s support parties are, barring JD(U) and BJD, small and politically insignificant. If JD(U) and the YSR Congress decided to support the opposition candidate, then it will be a game on for the Presidential election.
