Emily Climbs is the second in a series of novels by Lucy Maud Montgomery. It was first published in 1925. While the legal battle with Montgomery's publishing company (L.C. Page) continued, Montgomery's husband Ewan MacDonald continued to suffer clinical depression. Montgomery, tired of writing the Anne series, created a new heroine named Emily. At the same time as writing, Montgomery was also copying her journal from her early years. The biographical elements heavily influenced the Emily trilogy.

The book on its own is brilliant. But I knew that already, because I read it as a kid and it became one of my all-time favorites.Unfortunately, this audiobook version is awful. Whoever came up with the idea of a different narrator for every chapter should end up in hell. This book has been butchered by several narrators who surely can’t make their living in this line of work. At least half of them sound like they haven’t ever read a book out loud before. And the person who has read chapter 6 sounds like she doesn’t even speak English. This is an abomination. I can only hope that the third volume of the series will get a better treatment when they decide to make it into an audiobook. It most certainly can’t get any worse than this.Don’t do this to yourself if you can read the book instead of listening to this terrible audiobook. And if you can’t, I’m truly sorry.
