At first glance, "Elena Knows" appears deceptively straightforward. The protagonist, Elena, grapples with the challenges of Parkinson's disease, facing each day with a tenacious spirit. Despite relying heavily on medication for independence, her world is shattered by the tragic loss of her daughter, Rita, whose death she adamantly believes was not a suicide but a sinister homicide. Fueled by unwavering determination, Elena embarks on a solitary quest for justice, spurred by the police's lack of interest in pursuing the truth behind Rita's death. As Elena navigates through the town, fragments of the past unfold before us. We glimpse into her life alongside Rita, witnessing the profound impact of illness on both the patient and the caregiver. The ups and downs of a mother-daughter relationship are exposed in tough times. Delving into a parent's sorrow after losing a child, we feel the heaviness of the emotional burden Elena is trying to ease.
