The five volumes that constitute Arthur Marder's From the Dreadnought to Scapa Flow represents arguably the finest contribution to the literature of naval history since U.S. Naval officer and historian Alfred Mahan.
The War Years: To the Eve of Jutland 1914-1916 follows the exploits of the German ship Goeben's escape and the Royal Navy defeat at Coronel in Chile, followed by a major victory off the Falkland Islands. Marder then explores the Dardenelles disaster and submarine warfare, then examines British tactics leading to the Battle at Jutland against the Imperial German Navy's High Seas Fleet.
