Fantasy & SciFi
The first volume in Robin Hobb’s internationally bestselling Farseer series.
In a faraway land where members of the royal family are named for the virtues they embody, one young boy will become a walking enigma.
Born on the wrong side of the sheets, Fitz, son of Chivalry Farseer, is a royal bastard cast out into the world, friendless and lonely. Only his magical link with animals - the old art known as the Wit - gives him solace and companionship. But the Wit, if used too often, is a perilous magic, and one abhorred by the nobility.
So when Fitz is finally adopted into the royal household, he must give up his old ways and embrace a new life of weaponry, scribing, courtly manners; and how to kill a man secretly, as he trains to become a royal assassin.

It is simply an amazing book. It captivates you, confused you, warms you, saddens you but keeps you wondering what lies ahead. I loved it!

I now understand why everyone is so obsessed with Robin Hobb. This book was brilliant. Enjoyed the 1st person narration. You get to see the world through Fitz’s eyes and grow up along side him. The writing is brilliant, the plot is engaging and the world building rich.

I really struggled through the first few chapters of this book, but the payoff for my efforts was fantastic. Robin Hobb is able to create an immersive world with nuanced and grey characters that make you feel like you are there with them.

Stories like this one makes me want to keep reading the fantasy genre. The world, the characters and the story is not heavily dependent on the "magic" factor. Instead it's the plot which derives the story forward.
