Sons and Lovers (1913) is a novel by D. H. Lawrence set in late 19th-century England. The central character Paul, born to a disgruntled and unhappy couple Gertrude and Walter Morel, is the receiver of most of his mother's deep emotional feelings. He is so emotionally connected to and influenced by his mother that he is unable to form lasting relationships when he encounters other women.
