This work explores the structure of the key space in substitution ciphers and analyzes how Hill's method navigates this space. Using a combination of mathematical analysis and computational experiments, we reveal that the effectiveness of Hill's method is strongly correlated with the frequency distribution of letters in the ciphertext and the degree of deviation from a uniform distribution. Our findings provide a deeper understanding of the vulnerabilities of substitution ciphers and offer insights into designing more robust encryption schemes.
