#1 Every generation has its utopians, but none ever seems to work out. The main reason utopian projects fail is that, no matter how pure their intentions, people will always be more interested in power than they are in other people’s happiness. In a society in which the government has the power of life and death over almost all individuals, it’s not hard to imagine that some people would abuse such power for themselves and their friends. -> Utopian projects always fail because people are more interested in power than they are in other people’s happiness.

#2 The American Revolution was brought about by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1930s, who overhauled America’s economic and political system. The counterrevolutionaries of this era, led by two Austrian economists and an American academic from the University of Chicago, believed that FDR’s Keynesian economics would end in disaster.

#3 Neoliberalism has been a disaster for the vast majority of Americans, and as a result, a new generation of Americans has grown up pissed off about it.
