Gallops

This vintage book contains David Grey's 1898 novel, "Gallops". It is an entertaining and witty story of a rural community centred around the traditional English sport of horse racing. A delightful glimpse into nineteenth-century England, "Gallops" is highly recommended for lovers of horses and those with an interest in the history of English horse racing. Contents include: "The Parish of St. Thomas Equinus", "Braybrooke's Double-Event Steeplechase", "How the Fence-Breakers' League was 'Stumped'", "The Ride of his Life", "The 'Transfigured Pair'", "The Popularity of Tompkins", "Chalmers's Gold Piece", "The Bishop's Missionary Meeting", "His First Race", and "Carty Carteret's Sister". Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in an affordable, high-quality edition complete with a specially commissioned new introduction on horse racing.
