“The first year is when some of us lose our lives. The second year is when the rest of us lose our humanity." Xaden Riorson Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves. Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules. But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year. Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end. The Empyrean series is best enjoyed in order. Book #1 Fourth Wing Book #2 Iron Flame

This book is even better than the first, so many new plots and pieces of information. I’ve listen to it and finished it in 2 days.

Love the book, not as good as Fourth wing tho. Every chapter had its own cliffhanger. And the end of the book has left me with so many questions! And I cried like a baby

First of all, I really love the story. Especially the setting, the characters, and of course the dragons!!! However, even though this is definitely not a bad sequel. It just can't lift up to the bar that the previous book raised. Here are my reasons why: 1 part 1 was really wel written. It shows more of the characters and why they are important. Part 2 feels rushed and goes from one major event to the other at a really fast pace. Skipping some essential smaller events that fill up the story. 2 to coventient plottwist. Because part 2 jumps from one mayor event to the other. You can't help but notice that some things just randomly pop up out of nowhere. Like the two sigmunds of zaiden (the main love interest) or the new breed of dragon that Endarna is. 3 artificial characters. I don't really feel like I know all of the side characters. Because they are only artificially written. I would rather see some more bonding with the side characters, which would show me why they are important

Greatly written, amazing storyteller! The love scenes were in my opinion a little too long, but overall an amazing book!
