Kerfol

A gloomy 17th-century French chateau surrounded by gnarled trees under a misty sky. A single figure stands in the courtyard—poised and spectral—while five ghostly dogs with glowing eyes watch silently from the shadows.

Kerfol by Edith Wharton is a chilling and atmospheric ghost story steeped in gothic tradition and psychological nuance. First published in 1916, this haunting tale transports listeners to a decaying Breton estate in France, where an American visitor uncovers a sinister past filled with silence, suspicion, and spectral revenge.

Told in layered flashbacks, the story centers on the tragic Lady Kerfol, a woman accused of murder whose only companions were a pack of strangely silent dogs. As past and present begin to intertwine, the tale unfolds as a chilling meditation on isolation, emotional repression, and supernatural justice.

This full audiobook brings Wharton’s lush, introspective prose to life with suspenseful, elegant narration. It’s perfect for lovers of gothic fiction, haunted house tales, and psychological ghost stories that linger long after the last word.
