The Kings Servant

This story revolves around a favored servant named Muccio, whose special relationship with the King sparks jealousy among the other servants. Their envy drives them to seek the services of a witch to transform Muccio into different animals, including a cat, a lion, and finally a dragon, with hopes of falling out of the King's favor. However, each transformation only endears the animal, symbolizing Muccio's nature, more to the King. The King's affection for these transformed versions of Muccio remains constant, illustrating the genuine bond they share. Eventually, after spending a barrel of gold, the King learns about the transformations and returns Muccio to his human form. Despite the deceitful servants’ confession, Muccio compassionately pleads for their forgiveness, resulting in the King imposing a restriction on their finances. The tale concludes with the servants in service to Muccio, highlighting themes of loyalty, envy, and forgiveness.
