Whether online or in the local pet store, there are a bewildering variety of pet healthcare products and services to choose from. Diets and supplements, ancient herbs and folk remedies, and even high-tech treatments like hyperbaric oxygen tanks and laser therapy. Everything promises to give your pet better health and a longer life, and isn't that what every pet owner wants?
But how do you know if all of these products do what they claim? Are they safe? If they really are miraculous cures, why are so many offered only on the internet or by a few veterinarians specializing in "alternative medicine?"
Brennen McKenzie, a vet with twenty years of experience and the former president of the Evidence-based Veterinary Medicine Association, helps pet owners and veterinary professionals understand the claims and the evidence, allowing them to make better choices for their companions and patients.

As a science based dog behaviorist...There's some parts that bother me. Yes a lot of what he discusses is correctly so, nonsense. But then he discredits something like massage.True, it won't cure cancer. But we see it as highly beneficial for pets with bodily issues that seem to cause muscle soreness. It doesn't fix the source, but sometimes we can't fix the source. He seems very frustrated, angry and sometimes misinformed due to his over focus on CAM's being used to fix really extreme health issues. Which causes him to dismiss small things that we know aids, prevents and helps with things like ticks. (Proven by research)There's such a thing as being science based, but he is in some parts as blinded by his own beliefs as extremist CAM practitioners. And that worries me, because this book could have been very good if he wasn't so absolutely black and white. An open mind is a blessing, being realistic and a sensible person is too. I feel he's slightly lost there at times.
