‘Christina Alberta’s Father’ is a multi-layered read. Part comedy, part tragedy, and part satire of 1920s society, it tells the story of Albert Edward Preemby. Following his wife’s death, Preemby becomes convinced that he is the incarnation of the ruler of the lost city of Atlantis, Sargon and, as such, must restore order to the world. A fascinating and humorous read, Wells suggests that there is a Sargon in all of us; a part of our character that seeks to create something divine in the face of chaos.
H.G. Wells (1866 – 1946) was a prolific writer and the author of more than 50 novels. Additionally, he wrote more than 60 short stories, alongside various scientific papers. Many of his most famous works have been adapted for film and television, including ‘The Time Machine,’ starring Guy Pearce, ‘War of the Worlds,’ starring Tom Cruise, and ‘The Invisible Man,’ starring Elizabeth Moss. Because of his various works exploring futuristic themes, Wells is regarded as one of the ‘Fathers of Science Fiction.’
