#1 The term globalization has been used in both the popular and academic press to describe a process, a condition, a system, a force, and an age. However, these concepts have very different meanings, and their indiscriminate usage leads to confusion.
#2 There are three concepts that need to be distinguished when discussing globality: global imagination, global imaginary, and globalization. Global imagination is the growing consciousness of the world as a single whole. Global imaginary refers to people’s growing consciousness of the world as a single whole. Globalization is the process of transforming our present social condition of conventional nationality into one of globality.
#3 Globalization is the process of growing global connectivity fueled by digital technologies. However, it would be foolish to deny that these technological innovations have played a crucial role in the current compression of world-time and world-space.
#4 In 2014, American journalist Matt Stopera lost his cell phone, which contained thousands of private photos of an Asian man standing in front of an orange tree. He received many tweets from Chinese people offering to help find the man, and he became an overnight Internet celebrity in China.
