In the captivating start to a new, darkly lyrical fantasy series, Tea can raise the dead, but resurrection comes at a price.
When Tea accidentally resurrects her brother from the dead, she learns she is different from the other witches in her family. Her gift for necromancy means that she’s a bone witch, a title that makes her feared and ostracized by her community. But Tea finds solace and guidance with an older, wiser bone witch, who takes Tea and her brother to another land for training.
In her new home, Tea puts all her energy into becoming an asha—one who can wield elemental magic. But dark forces are approaching quickly, and in the face of danger, Tea will have to overcome her obstacles and make a powerful choice.

Got absolutely no idea if the book is good or not! Freaking impossible to listen to! Shifts between mumbling and screaming!

Lyrically beautiful, interesting premise, character-driven and atmospheric. Does it have plot at break neck speed? No, but it doesen't need it (and there is plenty of plot and intrigue in the rest of the series), this is a wonderful, if slow, setup for the series and introduction to the world of the eight kingdoms, which has so much lore i want to know more about. Tea is an important historical figure in this world, and the story is based on the bard writing an epic about her, and there are other historical figures, other epics i would like to read. We get a realistic sense of how the world feels, Tea would not discuss the five great heroes at length because the bard already knows the story. We dont hear about the gods other than the darashi oyun because that is what is natural to discuss within the context. I really love the characters too, but the worldbuilding is what made me fall in love, I have read this series so many times and I highly reccomend it.

Story 4 starsNarrator 3 starsThe story is pretty good. The two time lines keeps me interested, and the development of the main character feels natural. However, I get the voices the narrator use for certain characters, and when any character gets agitated, gives me a physical reaction. It's too much, and my blood pressure actually rise to the point of giving me a sever headache. I might read the next book, but I'll read it, not listen to it.
