In The King in Yellow, four of Robert W. Chambers' short stories are brought together, seemingly unrelated at first glance but all referencing the same mysterious figure: the King in Yellow. Who is he? And why do all those who read about him lose their sanity? The King in Yellow stands as a triumph in supernatural horror, with its evocatively vague descriptions of the unknown, allowing the reader to imagine the terrifying aspects themselves. Author H. P. Lovecraft was inspired by Chambers' style and referred to The King in Yellow in his novella The Whisperer in Darkness, a part of his Cthulhu mythos.
ROBERT W. CHAMBERS [1865-1933] was an American author and artist. He was highly prolific, writing over 80 novels and short story collections, with the most famous being the short story collection The King in Yellow [1895].
