#1 Attention management is the ability to be more proactive than reactive. It means you decide where your attention goes instead of letting outside demands decide for you.

#2 There are four general quadrants of attention management, based on how attentive you are and how much control you’re exerting. You’ve mastered control over your attention when you can routinely recognize which quadrant you’re in and make appropriate changes, depending on what you’re doing and what you want to accomplish.

#3 Flow is a state of concentration and immersion in an experience, which is what you experience when you are completely engrossed in a task and lose track of time. However, today’s distraction-filled workplaces are the enemy of flow.

#4 Flow is a brain state, not a behavior. You can’t enter a flow state at will. But you can create an ideal environment that is free from distractions. Focus is required, and it takes effort to stay focused in part because the constant distractions that fill our lives make us impatient.
